Enrollment includes the following 4 sessions:

Saturday

1-3pm: Alpha and Omega: Prana and Apana

We will start by exploring the beginning and the end of the primary series, as well as the fundamental foundation upon which it rests—the interplay between prana and apana. We will discuss the nature of the pranic and apanic patterns, learn to recognize these principles in the body, and explore the manifestation of these patterns in various physical postures. We will also learn the opening invocation and the closing prayer, and discuss the meaning of each and how these chants set the space for our practice.

4-7pm: The Standing Series, Kidney Wings, and Forward Folds

With an understanding of the dance between prana and apana, we take these elements and explore the standing series of the primary series. We will pay particular attention to the central theme of the primary series—the asymmetrical forward fold.

Sunday

2-4pm: Bhuja-what? Stabilize the Core but Keep the Heart Open

This session will explore poses of the primary series from navasana onward. These poses challenge the middle section of the body as well as the mind. We will find the essence of each pose and then work to express that essence in the body, leaving room for our articulation of the pose to be unique.

5-7pm: Putting it All Together: the Complete Primary Series

Expressing the knowledge we have learned in a physical, emotional, and mental form, together we will do the primary series with integrity, breath, and intelligence.
